Hurt breaks my breath
Acerbic thoughts close my throat
Hot acid running in rivers rush
Down stained cheeks trying to keep the soul afloat

Blood boils into flashpoint
Sending flames to sear my insides
Coming undone like castles unable
To resist against the force of the tides

The heart halts in resignation
To keep this body from feeling pain
Pain—when felt—debilitates anyway
What point is there in breathing in vain

Left with no breath and no will
The self can no longer afford identity
A luxury enjoyed by lucky folk in
A world where freedom is not seen as a right

But just
an
Amenity
